Hi all,

Is there something available somewhere that wraps around a focus and provides a focus tab -- just curious if anybody knows of such a thing?

Thanks! -Scott

other than

I cant find any, though it could still exist, i assume you want one for an RF lens.

You may have to make one, a hose clamp with heat shrink tubing would work.

A wire wrap? Maybe a dab of silicone glue to hold it if it slips?

silicone glue doesn't generally stick to metal/smooth plastic very well.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I don't think the Leica tab on Ebay would work (I assume that only works on very specific lenses?).

Perhaps even a bit of squishy double-stick tape would be enough to hold the ring (and keep it from scratching up the lens).

How would you use heat-shrink tubing in addition to the hose clamp?

Right now I'm thinking: get a hose clamp, cut some slices of squishy double-stick tape, tighten the clamp, and that's it -- love to hear any suggestions on how to make it better.

I'm kind of surprised something like this isn't available for sale...

Slide the heat shrink over the hose clamp band and shrink it to protect your lens, a second larger piece to go over the screw section to shrink after it's tight and you will have no sharp edges.

A plastic zip tie would work:

Rapid-focus levers used to be very popular for medium format lenses, back in the days of film.

Apparently Panasonic offers something like this for their current lenses, so it might fit your application as well:

A little classier than a hose clamp, too...

There are a range of these available, ranging from just one step up from a zip tie, to a geared motor-assist system. If you look for focus assist levers for DSLRs, you'll find some options.

Nikon has announced one, but I have no idea if it's available yet, or if it's reasonably priced:

Thanks -- it's actually very helpful just to know that I should be looking for a "lever" rather than a "tab"!

Thanks again to all.

I wound up getting the Panasonic lever that molson pointed to. I made a few minor tweaks to it, and I find it to be a very handy improvement to my lens.

sorry, I just noticed this thread
for anyone else looking, BH has a whole bunch of such levers, but you have to look for "follow focus accessories " in the pro video section

Part of what I liked about the Panasonic is that the lever isn't too long -- it doesn't catch when I put the camera in my bag, and I think I'd get a bit worried about some accident with a long lever.

It also has a kind of 'cutout' that I can put my finger in and turn the lens in either direction (which I think would be somewhat harder with just a lever).

Whichever one anybody might prefer, it's a pretty handy addition.

I agree, the panasonic one looks like the best of the lot, for photography.

Sugru is very easy to use. I bought a small pack and made a small focus tab for my pancake voigtlander. It's easy to use and very easy to remove.
