All my previous settings remained the same after the Update including the MF adjustments.

QUESTION!!!!

I must be doing something wrong here, or I misunderstand the 1DX-Manual

Maybe one of you can help me with this?

I'm trying to put a "special function" on the DOF button and on the M-Fn2 button.
On each of these buttons, I want to have a different AF Area.
From the manual, I understand this should be possible.

So:

In "Custom Controls"
I choose the desired button (so I will have to repeat the process to change the 2 buttons)
Push that button.
From the menu I choose "Registered AF Function"
Then, push the "Info button" next to the viewfinder
and choose "AF Area Selection Mode" from the menu.
Then choose the AF area of choice.
Press set!
Press menu!
Press set!
Done, you're now back in the Custom Controls menu.

But somehow I can not get 2 different AF areas on the 2 buttons. They end up being one and the same AF area on the 2 different buttons?

What am I doing wrong here?

Please HELP

Koen.

I belive it was like that for me also. At least the two lenses that I used today still had the same MF adjustment. And all other settings I looked at where the same as before.

I was very very impressed with the AF after installing the new firmware. And it was already fantastic before. I just came home after shooting 2000 pics of the girls that are dancing in the Erawan shrine in Bangkok. Started in good light but I finished the shooting after the sunset. About 500 shots with my 85/1,2 wide open. Got more keepers than ever before. I used Servo AF case 6 and focus priority +2 when shooting.

Awesome news, thanks for the report Lars!

I have done that in the past. I just wondered it anyone had an issue with this version upload or if the saved settings would be recognized by the new firmware. There are new settings in this release.

The new settings are the only changes I saw. I usually take no chances though and backup to file.

Good news. I'm headed out today to give it my first real test.

You have to register an AF point or expansion mode (not zone) first, as per p348. I prefer to use * and AF ON buttons for this however, and leave DoF button to switch AF parameter settings.

Thanks all for getting back on track about the Firmware and reporting back your findings. I always wait some time before doing it to see if it goes smoothly for everybody. But so far it sounds like everybody is reporting smooth sailing with the upgrade.

Yep, just to add another data point....FW update completed on Sat AM. No issues, haven't put any of the new features to work yet as I just shot some outdoor shots while ice fishing. Will have to play around more and see if I will use the EC in M as much as I thought I would.

Mmm. Loving the new firmware. Takes a minute to figure everything out, but all the changes were great.

With a boost to low contrast targets i think a by product may be better tracking with converters which was outstanding with my 2.8's, very good on the 4,s and not bad on my 800.
The 800 with the 1.4 definitely seemed more responsive and very quick compared to my previous use of a converted 800 so F8 equivalent.
Could just be me but a better hit rate was far higher than i had seen before with our local Sunbirds which are Hummer size.

I updated both bodies with no problems. They now feel turbocharged at iso 12,800; locking on and firing noticeably faster. Also had the opportunity to shoot a horribly lit performance at iso 25,600 and was very pleased. Even in a number with almost nothing but tones of brown and blacks, it focused, tracked, and gave me sharp images of the dancers. A couple of times when they began dimming the lights, the AF indicator blinked to indicate it was having trouble, but the images were still in focus. Very impressive.
