Honestly, I am a touch disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, it looks like it will be one of the best 50mm lenses ever made, but I was hoping for near-Otus like performance given the element grouping.

You're disappointed that this may be one of the best 50mm lenses ever made?

If it's anywhere near the 35 in terms of performance, focus speed, and focus accuracy, I'll be thrilled. If it has the same reduction in chromatic aberration (practically nil on the 35), I might sleep with it...

Lets just say I got my hopes up fairly high when I saw the elements/grouping

MTF chart is shockingly similar to the 35, but a tiny bit worse (ever so slightly lower micro contrast).

I was wondering if the 50 might end up a bit better than the 35 just because it seems that longer lenses generally come out a little sharper than the wides.

Got a copy of the 35 for canon last week. It missed constantly outside of 18 inches and was terribly soft all around. Got two more copies immediately and tested both with mixed results and still lots of misses outside of 18 inches. Got the USB adapter and made adjustments, no improvement. Sent all three back after being so disappointed and got the Canon 35L, it's been flawless. Huge bummer though, we were in love with the look and build quality, price and the promise of the 50. My buddy shoots the 35 on a Nikon and it's FANTASTIC.

I'd be running it on a Nikon.

Right now I have the pretty-good Nikkor 50/1.8G. Really curious if this new Sigma can beat my lens at 1.8 and 2.0.

Most likely around the cost of the 35

If the rumors are true it'll be about a hundred bucks under the price of the 35. I was worried it was going to be more than the 35.
