I saw this post asking about what your first L lens and be gain to think about what was the last L lens that you bought and did,nt resale meaning that you must like it or it fits a need better than any other lens you can afford. I not meaning you rented borrowed or some how aquired but do not own now.

My last LLens purchase was the Canon EF-7-15 L f 4 Fisheye lens.

Before that it was a 100-400L, 24-70L and my first was the 70-200 f. 2.8 IS mkI

Well my latest is the 300mm f4L. It's not any everyday lens, but it is certainly good to have.

500mm F4 L IS, use it every day I touch my camera pretty much. Heck used it today in my house to photograph the parrots :-)

The most recent L lens that I bought is the 16-35/2.8L II. It's a keeper.

100/2.8L IS macro.

I use it at work quite a bit.

Also traded a 100-400L IS for a 300/4L IS.

Same for me - I recently bought a used mint copy of the 8-15/4 Canon fisheye lens as upgrade from my Peleng 8/3.5 fisheye version. Canon did a really good job making this lens - negligible flares, perfect even in infrared. Great to have a zoom option between full circular at 8 mm and rectangular at 15 mm on FF.

I picked up a 100L IS Macro back in late November. Got it refurbished from Canon while on sale so it was a great buy. I don't usually like primes but the house we rent now has so many wildflowers around the yard that I want to try my hand at grabbing some close shots this Spring/Summer. Hoping to nab some dragonflies as well. The plastic build is not quite as solid as the 24-70 II but still pretty close.

300 2.8 L IS was the latest & hopefully I'll get some use from it soon. I bought it for it's reputation on it's own plus when used with a 2X TC.

My most recent until later today was the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II........Canada post will deliver the 24-70 f/2.8 II today
Before that it was the 300II. However, I've never sold off any of my L lenses going all the way back to my very first two (24-105 and 100-400). I'm a collector at heart so selling is not in my blood.

Canon 50mm 1.2L. Perfect everyday indoor lens for the 6D I picked up last year.

I picked up a 24-70mm II and 17-40mm basically concurrently. I have no doubt that the 24-70mm will be a keeper, but the jury is out on the 17-40mm for my photography.

I am curious as to how badly I'll miss the 2.4 offered by the 16-35 II for astrophotography. Though, if the 17-40 is sufficient for my landscape needs stopped down, I may simply go for other lenses for nightscapes, such as the Rokinon 14mm f/2.4 and/or Sigma 35mm f/1.4. Time will tell, and half the fun is in the discovery...

Thanks Jim & thanks to those links you & Peter posted I've spent a bunch more money getting the recommended accessories. One of these days we'll have both sunshine & a warm enough day to wait around outside for some Cardinals to visit the feeder BUT sit in the tree branches for that natural look.

I got the 300 2.8 IS and the 24 70 II at about the same time. I will probably eventually upgrade the 300 to the II version when I can. The 24 70 II is a keeper. As others come and go, I can't see ever getting rid of it or the 70 200 IS II.

24 f1.4 Mk2. Its fast, beautifully built, and by f2.8 is wonderfully sharp corner to corner. Its CA control is so much better than that of its Mk1 predecessor.

I believe my latest L is the 17 TSE, about a year ago. Great lens, and completed my TSE collection in a very useful way. Bought it used and had a minor repair done to it at the seller's expense -- put in near "refurb" condition from CPS. Nearly paid for itself in one assignment, easing the burden of its cost. It's one of my favorite lenses of all time.

And . . . don't listen to anyone who says you can't use TSE lenses hand held -- I got a nice avatar photo out of it. Here's a wider view of the subject of my avatar shot.

The only one I still have is the 180 3.5. I sold off 24-70, 70-200, 85 1.2, 1Ds3, 1Ds2, to move to a Hasselblad. I now use a 6D with the 180 & 85 1.8, tokina 16-28, Nikkor 105 2.5, & 135 2.8, and a Helios 44-2. I rent the 24 T/S when I need it, it's a stellar piece of glass.
