First is from the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. The lioness was lying a few feet from a wildebeest kill earlier in the day. Although the sun was strong and it was getting hot, she wasnt about to abandon the carcass. After 10 minutes or so she moved in even closer, lying in the shade of our safari vehicles. And, at times, at the minimum focusing distance of my 100-400 lens (6 feet or so).
The rest are from Serengeti NP. The rock outcroppings, or kopjes, provide a lookout, some shade, and elevation above some of the tse tse flies, as does climbing up in the trees. The rock shots at are an area near Seronera and I think these are the Maasai Kopjes. The field shot and up in the tree images were taken at a different area in the Serengeti, not far from where we later picnicked (with a watchful eye). We were probably 60-80 feet away.
