AmiGone - the Gorilla image is stunning.

Great thread, Mark! Some stunning shots here. My humble contrib has to be these two owls, I think. I have more popular photos, but these owls are special to me, as they live quite close to me, still I only rarely see them both (3 times for the last 3 years). Shot hand-held with the 600mm f4 IS mk2 + 2x TC mk3 on the 5Dmk3, wide open at f8, 1/125s, ISO 1250.

IndyFab - cool gator shot. I like the oversaturation and vignette. Scary!

diverhank - great macro of the bee showing blurred wings along with vivid varied colors. I'm liking the oversaturation in this one too.

dhachey - this is an amazing look inside a Buddhist life. This image tells a story like few photos do. Very well done. The burning incense tops off the image.

Photon - cool carnival image at night. I like how you cropped the bottom of the scene so that just the fireworks and carnival set up remains. It leaves the viewer wondering what's going on with the people underneath.

onegreatcity - you have used the lighting so artistically with the rippling water surface. The silhouette of the duck makes a nice peaceful subject.

robin bush - wow, one of the old timers on FM since 2003! Thanks for honoring us with this soft seascape. Everything came together perfectly in this shot. The sky, water, mountains, and rocks all compliment each other so nicely.

can0nfan2379 - this German Shepherd looks very majestic in this pose. The wide angle plays nice with the clouds and the sepia tone works well here.

narik001 - great silhouette reflection against the striking African sky. I guess you will not have to be penalized for posting two of these beauties.

smmokan16 - this is one amazing rainbow/double rainbow! What a scene, love it.

AmIgone - Incredibly pensive Gorilla image. It seems as though he is looking right through me. You have to wonder what his thoughts are at the moment. Hope he's not thinking you should have bought Nikon!

Eyvind Ness - what a wonderful find. These moments are few and far between and I understand why capturing these two owls is so meaningful for you. Also, great job getting a clear sharp shot at that range and hand held at only 1/125th. Wow, 1200mm and that low of a shutter speed is a testament to your skill.

Mark, are we limited to one photo for the year?

Since we are this far along in the thread I'd say it's fine to post a second or third shot for everyone.

Thank you Mark. Your taking the time to respond to each post is generous, meaningful, and appreciated. I'm certain I commented on your gull shot when I saw it earlier this year but for the record, it's one of my favourite images on FM ever! Happy New Year to you...

What a nice thing for you to say! Happy New Year to you also. Now dig through your files and post another one of your favorites while there's still a few hours of 2013 remaining.

As one of our departed friends at FM would say,

"Happy Shooting" in 2014

OK, then I will see how people react to this one. It was August, and our first chance in many years to get out of town and travel for a week, with time that I could devote to photography. What fun! I love photographing people, and it helps pay the bills, but I hope that while I can still walk things will reach a point where we can travel and relax frequently, and I can explore our world through a camera. OK, enough words…

…except to say, the TS-E lenses are a blast!
And Mark, thanks for your comment on my carnival pic - you were spot on about the vantage and composition!

Thanks for the good words Mark …

I know auto racing is not a central subject of interest with most photographers … so here are a few photos taken off track …

All are with the 5Dc and Canon 50 f/1.4 …

‘Till next year … and yes … “Happy Shooting” and a Happy New Year …

Since Mark is allowing one more post, here's one more from a recent trip to Moss Landing. Feels good to empty the chamber of the 1DMk4 once in a while.

It is quite frustrating to shoot them breaching on the Ocean...never know when/where they will pop out and disappear in a second.

OK...so we can post one more...here is my favorite for 2013. I shot this almost directly against the sun but since the light was getting really low, the shot actually worked better than I had hoped.

Such beautiful pictures, everyone! Mark, thank you so much for so graciously hosting this thread!

The below would have to be my second favorite, still in Sedona. I enjoy it partly for the composition, and partly for the memory of dodging oncoming traffic to get it!

Since I hold Seattle very close to my heart, it's only fitting that my "best" shot from 2013 is from my favorite city.

Love the talent on here... great shots! I'll throw 3 of my favorites from this year. First from an overland trip to Botswana with a guide buddy - A young male lion locked onto another member of the pride just prior to a pounce. The other is one of the many amazing waterfalls in Glacier National park, as well as a moose in the same area who was "grazing" on the bottom of an alpine lake.

Happy New Year everyone!
