Any opinion on these lens stack up against each other and compares to the Nikon 70-200. All latest version lens.

Any good reviews comparing them that you can direct me to? I need to buy either the Tamron or the Sigma for a a second shooter to compliment the Nikon VR2 I already have. Thanks in advance for you help

I had the Tamron, used it for about 2-3 days and returned it. There's a thread about my experience with it somewhere.

http://www.photozone.de/ The lenses are tested on different systems, but really, there isn't all that much difference between them.

Thanks Kyyo24. The Tamron in that test is the older one without VC. Think the newer one should be better. This is the one I am interested in Tamron SP 70-200MM F/2.8 DI VC USD. the link to it on Amazon is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A34GP52/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A13BNE3P7C8THK

Hi Ben - was it the newest Tamron ? This one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A34GP52/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A13BNE3P7C8THK

Care to share why you returned it and what you end up getting? Searched for your thread but came up empty.

Some of Sigma's lenses have an issue with OSS around 1/60. I thin this is one of them, at least it is the reason I didnt get it.

Another alternative (the route I went)...do you need vr? If so the price of a new tamron or sigma is the same, if not more, than a used nikon vr1. I actually got my vr1 for 1100 in mint condition last year

Thanks everyone. Think I will go for the VR1 or save a bit more and get the VR2.

Had both. I kinda hated the Tamron, the VR took seconds to stabilize. Totally unusable during weddings.
I dont shoot wildlife but it should be a problem too, I guess.

Otherwise, it's scary sharp, except at 200mm f/2.8, just like the non-VR variant. Not as bad, but still.

The Sigma was decent all-around, just not as good as others when it comes to critical sharpness wide open.

I ended-up picking up an used Nikon 70-200 VR1. 200mm is supposed to be weak on full frame but it's okay on a D700 and just perfect if you have a DX camera.

I'm really waiting for an updated Sigma 24-70 and 70-200, it'll be very interesting considering the way Sigma has been conducting business lately.

Yeah, a Sigma 24-70 OS on par with their recent releases will kick Canikon in the nuts.

I've got to say that all lenses have some sort of flaws in them and they all have their quirks. What matters is what are the best uses for a lens and how much are we willing to spend. I've had Tamron lenses and I will be the first to say that I was more than less disappointed by them EXCEPT for the 90mm f/2.8 Macro. That lens is amazing.

Now... I've searched and search the Internet for the best 70-200mm f/2.8 lens on the market for the money. Well, I have to say (and this is my opinion ONLY) that the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens is absolutely amazing! Coupled with the 2X tele and you've got 400mm f/5.6 at your disposal. Stunning photos!
