p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Weather Sealing? D3s

I will be shooting in probable rain tomorrow. I have a Think Tank for my 400 2.8, but my 70-200 on my second D3s will be unprotected. I have never exposed any of my gear to any rain , snow or dust. Nikon markets the camera and pro lens as Weather Sealed. Has anyone exposed their gear and what should I expect? Thanks

I use the Storm Jacket on a D700 w 70-200/2.8 combo up to moderate rain for hours on end with no problem. (Touch wood.) Your D3s should have same, more likely better, weather sealing than my D700. If you can't find the Strom Jacket, most local camera stores should have the Op-Tech equivalent.

I've been caught in a down poor in Florida with that exact combo. I had no issues with lens or body but doesn't mean something bad can't happen. Just make sure it's dry before removing the lens.

I've had a D3x and 24-70 (same quality of weather sealing as the 70-200 as far as I can tell), not only get soaked for hours in the rain, but also get completely doused by a freshwater wave. They just keep on going.

What will you be shooting? I've had my D700 and a 70-200 VR II in light rain several times with no problem. Could you use an umbrella? I've actually held one and shot in heavier rain and it was a challenge

I had shot my D2Xs and D2H side by side with 70-200VR-I and 300/4 in pouring rain for about 5 hours at the zoo in the fall of 2008. They all came out just fine. I have it all except the 300/4 (which I have since sold). I simply wiped everything off when I got home.

I can't imagine the D3 or D3s being any worse in weather sealing.
