I don't know why no one has mentioned that the hypothetical 56MP sensor is no more demanding on lenses and technique than the current 24mp DX sensors in the D5300 and D7100.

So if you can handle those cameras, you ought to be able to handle a 56MP D4x.

From the same person you heard diffraction isn't an issue, perhaps?

There is no need for a snide put down. I understand diffraction.

The problem is that it is not clear, to me anyway, what you are saying. Your earlier post made some rather startling claims.

A Vivitar 135/2.3 series 1 lens, used floating optics for close-focus-correction, goes to 3ft. I kept it, sold the Nikkor 135/2. Mine is multi-coated, non-Ai.

Have you shot with a D800? It takes some getting used too!! I have to double my shutter speed! Can only imagine what will happen with 56 megapixels!

A 56MPixel sensor in a Nikon- basically the lens becomes the low-pass filter. The APO-Summicron 50/2 is stated to resolve 120LP/mm. That would be a good lens for a 56MPixel camera.

From the sounds of it, LeifG has a much better understanding of diffraction than some of those pseudo-experts you referenced in your earlier post...

I suspect the use of "only" a 16MPixel sensor in the Df produced the tangent. The sensor in the Df is a very good match for manual focus/older lenses. Most of these tend to be fast, and on the Df gives some amazing low-light performance.

Most of the older manual focus lenses tested well at 50LP/mm resolution, resolved better than that stopped down a bit, also a good match for a 16MPixel sensor that uses a Bayer filter..

Merry Christmas, the Df was my "open first" present.

Knock yourself out, 'molson'. Go stock up on those bargain, circa 1990 AFD lenses for your 56MP sensor. It's Christmas, after all!

I'm sure that anyone here proclaiming himself as the expert much be taken at his/her word over known, established references just because they're FM members.

I believe the new Nikon DX dSLRs have the same pixel pitch as an FX 56 MP sensor. Are you hearing a lot of grumble from people using those dSLRs about having to push their SS or having to buy very expensive glass?

I went from a D700 to a D800 and these are both FX bodies (larger sensor). I am not a physicist, but imagine the smaller sensor and 24mp on the newer DX Nikon bodies is easier to handle. Just my personal opinion.

I don't know this guy from Adam's house cat , though I really appreciate his photography skills. He does have some fairly definitive opinions about the Df

Doesn't look like he can get past the ergonomics. Can't please everyone.

He likes the sensor and that's where it ends. He has a palpable hate for the Df.

Ergonomics is why I gave my F5 to my son whose hands are much larger than mine. "If the glove don't fit, you must acquit."
