As a not-techie slide shooter, I honestly don't really know what the term "blow out the whites" means. But all the adults seem to use it- so I thought I'd see if I could use it correctly. I'm just a dreamer.
Yep, the shot is too tight. Basically a problem of using a 400mm prime lens from a fixed position (boardwalk in the swamps). And the habit of shooting for slide projection only

After my traveling days slowed down to a trickle- I finally got a 100mm to 400mm zoom.
You don't have to have bad timing to mess things up- but it helps
