New collapsible lens. That would be cool for those wanting a smaller package.

More exciting news from Nikon...

Thanks Nikon, no wonder why your sales are doing so well.

Like any corporation, Nikon is going where the money is. It will have DSLR IQ, and cost a fraction of a D300s. If they add wifi, they will really tantalize the soccer mom/Iphone contingent.

If the rumor is true, I'm surprised they didn't introduce it for Christmas.

Pre-Christmas would have seemed more logical. They could have resurrected the old Kodak "Open Me First" campaign. Yes, I'm old enough to remember that one.

Oh boy, another 5.6 zoom lens that I won't touch because I shoot primes and I don't like lens flare..

It appears Nikon is replacing their point and shoot offerings with these small little dslrs for as fast as they put them out.

People will take advantage of it, even if you don't.

people will just keep going on and on about this.. What sensor would they even put in a "d400" another 24mp sensor? How many 24mp cameras does Nikon need? It's a tad redundant

Nikon should just make a crop sensor version of the Df with the specs of a D3300 and price it at $399.99. WITH movie mode. Then, I would buy it.

I'd be happy with 16, I don't need 24. all I really care for is better high iso. They can keep the d300s exactly how it is, bump up the mp a litle and iso and I'd probably buy 2

************************************

The sensor is but one part of the camera. The whole point of a pro-level DX body is to get top of the line AF performance, high FPS in RAW format, a deep buffer in RAW format, and easily accessed controls to change all aspects of exposure (similar to a D300 or D800 body).

The D300 meets that need but has an old sensor and an old AF system. It would be nice to have all the features I mentioned a body with a modern 24MP sensor and the latest AF technology. It need not be a new 24MP sensor either, it could be the same one as the D5300, but in a new body that adds the peformance features I mentioned.

I don't see why this is so hard for people to understand.

Yeah, I'd buy one of those lenses. I always loved the 18-55's. Very sharp, light and compact. But a collapsible version would be nice on my D300s

I can't see any reason to be upset with Nikon iterating their bread and butter products. If it weren't for the D3300/D5500's Nikon probably couldn't afford the R&D on any of the high end products we all love to buy.

I hope Nikon makes and sells a ton of these. These are the products that subsidize the cost of the high end dSLRs. That is why I could buy the D800 at less than $3,000. I understand the need for a pro level DX, but then why criticize Nikon when they introduce a product that pays for those pro level products?

Based on the table published in Nikon Rumors, we can see that Nikon sold twice the number of D3200 than D7000, and 10 times that of D800. Numbers were from 2013, Japan only, but it gives an idea where Nikon makes their money. I find it strange that people complain when a company refreshes the models that earn them a large part of their revenue.
