It's a beautiful day....at least for photographing a snowy. There was some snow showers and relatively dark conditions but it mattered very little. Spending the better part of 5 hours on cold sand with freezing fingers that made pushing the shutter button tricky was all worth it. I am almost happy to say we got limited flight shots as that suggests more responsible photogs that didn't stress the bird. This is my one flight shot with the whole bird in the frame and I was pretty happy it chose to look at me with at least one eye.
The somewhat obscure title reference is from an old song by the group It's a Beautiful Day called "White Bird"...listen to it if you can.

Eric, wish we could get to see these white birds this far south. Nice BIF image particularly with the owl facing toward you. Seems that you used a slower shutter speed as there appears to be significant movement on the owl's right wing.

They are such beautiful birds and you have captured it well. The blue of the ocean, the white sands all seem to really showcase this beauty. Well done.

Thanks and believe it or not a snowy was photographed on a rooftop in Bermuda (and Hawaii last year) so who knows. I was not expecting any flight shots and the shutter speed was only THAT high to counter the long lens/teleconverter and the vibration and wind. I got kind of lucky to grab a couple of shots as it took off. I guess I could always keep shutter speeds way up but that is at a cost of higher ISO or shallower dog.

Thanks Roberta...it was not the nicest of days and no sun but that added to the mood and softness. I couldn't get great feather detail but good enough to make it a worthwhile shoot.

Thanks Geoff...an unexpected lift off so I shot at what I had determined for static shots. I really don't mind a little motion blur....after all it was moving. And unlike some off you my dial spinning especially when lying on the ground and wearing gloves is not very swift.

So, come visit...no excuses...there was a guy from Shanghai who had gone to Ted's pond then drove 4 more hours just for this...he wasn't disappointed!

I like that soft wing look here! It's always tricky, but you did it right. Nice blue BG but overall warm colour on the bird. And of course he's going to give you a look; you're the "Eyelaser". You probably tried to give him some drops!

How did the other 1498 shots turn out?

Damn- this is excellent, Eric. I love it.
A terrific BIF? You're getting good at this stuff.
And the oof bits are a perfect addition- similar to a little motion blur of water falls and stream rapids.
Not too much... but just right
