So, my series 1 gitzo 4 section is so trashed at this point it just makes me curse. Its from before the legs started locking, but it has all sorts of issues from being dragged around in the muck, dropped down talus fields, and beat around in my truck for years.

So - the gist of the thread - I'm looking for a new tripod in that size realm (gitzo 1 series), carbon fiber, probably a 3 section instead of 4 this time. I dont want to spring for another gitzo (I have a gitzo 0 series and a 3 series), and I'm wondering what the best of the second/third tier carbon pods are. This is just for mirrorless cameras with shorter lenses, and only need to get a bit over 4' high without center column.

I'm just gonna trash it again, so yes, the RRS pods are sweet, but no . I'm primarily concerned with functionality (ie is it fiddly) and build quality (will it take wet/mud/cold/hot/truck floor/sand/etc)

I guess alternatively, to be less of a consumer, is there a good way to refurbish the leg collars on an older mountaineer tripod?

I sent a Feisol back because I didn't care for the way the locks operated, although I liked not having a center column. Purely subjective opinion but it just didn't feel smooth. There are plenty of Feisol users that really like them so it would be good to see if you can handle one before buying. I didn't have that opportunity.

I was able to handle Induro tripods locally and was sold on the build quality / value. The CT 213 with optional short center column that I have is perfect for my needs. Induro tripods have a 25% off instant rebate through mid-January.

The CT 114 looks like a good, pack in a carry on bag, travel tripod. I don't need smaller, my next tripod will be the CT 313.

The 414 is a bear of a tripod and a heck of a value at $500 current price (with the 25% discount). I wouldn't hesitate if I needed BIG, but the 213 will do everything I need. I use it with an Acratech GV2.
