Twice now, my daughter has been unable to download photos from a CF card. The error message is, "The disk you inserted was not readable by the computer." The first time I tried several recovery programs but was unable to recover the images. This time, the card included some images from a trip to China so I tried again and found a free software program by Transcend to work. something in your import chain is bad . either the card or the reader . (the reader could have corrupted the card) .
after the first time im not sure id have trusted that card with anything important (like trip photos) , but now its happened again you need to fully test the import chain and toss the bad link .

What confuses me is that she was using a card and reader that I use all the time with no problems. The main difference in the import chain is downloading to her computer rather than mine.

She was importing into Aperture (which I also use). I suspect it's something she does rather than the hardware.

try just importing the file itself onto the computer directly via DnD rather then through a program.

Those programs don't always work. Even Transcend can't always recover data from their own cards.

OK! From my understanding, to rescue your CF card data, you need firstly save no more data on this card. The more you write on this CF card, the more chances your needed card contents would be overwritten. And then, insert this card to another computer and try some data recovery software to take your needed images back.
But, if that doesn't do it, you'll have to decide if the files are worth an insignificant amount of money for professional recovery services.
More information to help your restore card data here:

Note: Always make card data backups in the future.

Thank you for your useful answers. They helped me a lot when my phone SD card was formatted by chance.
At that time, after the format, all my phone videos, images, files and songs were erased and could not be accessed. But, some of them were really needed in the next day and had not been backed up. I had tried many ways.
Finally, with the guidance of a searched thread, I eventually rescue them all back again:

Thank you for your clues.

There are numerous recovery tools available. It is best to test and be familiar with them before there is an urgent need.
