New to macro so please excuse my poor first attempt. This little guy was on my front porch (Dardago, Italy) this morning and was just curious what species of spider it might be...figured you guys could help. He's still there and has moved maybe three inches since I found him about four hours ago.

Some species of Huntsman (Sparassidae) by the looks.

Thanks, everyone!

Unfortunately, I think this little guy was on his way out when I found him. He barely moved the rest of the day, legs gradually moved inward towards its body, and eventually disappeared. I have a feeling a bird or cat disposed of him for me.

Leigh, I read up a bit on the Huntsman species and learned they're relatively quick little monsters. I must admit I'm glad it wasn't full of energy while I was trying to get my shot! Eek!!

Hi Kevin,
They are quite common here in Australia and probably our largest spider. I often find them under bark when chopping wood for the fire. They are not generally aggressive and usually run away when uncovered. Here's a couple of shots I took a while back.

Cheers

good shot, IMO it does not look like a huntsman spider, more like a wolf spider. depends on how big it was also.

anyway nice picture.
