A lot!
(for us anyway)

I know, you're looking thinking there will be a nice snowy landscape.... Sorry...

This is the first snowfall since 2007 on or around these dates (6 years)...

Unfortunately, I haven't made it out yet because I have no heat, didn't have electricity for a while, and have had to get the snow off the tree branches before they broke off. Really wet sloggy stuff...

A quick pre-dawn shot from my neighborhood for informative purposes.

Nope...
Sorry Kee, Mid April... Not gonna happen!
Mid April think a town completely overrun with spring break tourists in bicycle shorts and temperatures in the 60's and 70's...

Then until when you have snow there? March?

There may be only one more storm, or there may be 20. When I look back on my pictures, there are only one or two good snow days a year. Usually the weather predictions are wrong also. You just wake up, and it's there...

Which town is this? I was in Moab, Monticello and Blanding for mst of September, with heat followed by rain...lots of rain. Would love to see snow in that area.

Looks like you could use some warm liquids this morning...surely don't envy you that wet snow. Good luck with your trees. And heat. And electricity...

Are you going out for a "real" photo later?

Hope so Bill.
But I forgot, I have a package coming today I need to sign for. Maybe some evening sunset shots...

Have I mentioned I'm jealous of where you live? I hope that package shows soon so you can get out and enjoy that snow - I bet the hardest part is just deciding where to go!

I thought Canyonlands got snow regularly in winter. Perhaps not just in Moab?

Hope you get electricity soon (unless you already have it back on). I'm hoping to get down there in February ...

I was there in March of 2012 and it was quite cold at night, but warm in the day time (50s-60s).

No,

This kind of snow this early - it's quite rare. I had to drive back from Colorado late last night and expected it to be dry. But no.... I-70 was a wet snowy mess all the way.

Canyonlands, Island in the Sky is 2,000 feet higher at around 6,000 ft. But still, a good storm is about one in 45 days. 2008, there was too much snow. I remember I could not get to any of the ruins down in Cedar Mesa, when in other years the dirt roads were bone dry. But normally the snow is a rare event. Much more common over by Bryce.

I just got back from Zion. Overcast and raining for last two days. Bryce had 12 inches of snow.
Show us some snowy images when you get a chance.

I seen that on the Canyonlands FB page, 8-10 inches in the Needles! And Arches too! Although it mentioned it started raining soon after melting the snow.

I was amazed when I went last February how quickly the snow melts once it hits midday! After a nice inch had fallen in the parks it was gone by lunchtime! Hard to beat snow on the red rocks though!

Buckle up Craig, I have a feeling it's going to be a wet and snowy winter this year, that or it won't snow again until February.

Well, that's a great prediction!

Anyway, I only posted to inform the hardy photographers that might see it and go "That's for me!" and drive down from Salt Lake or over from Denver, or catch a plane on short notice to Grand Junction, battling the elements. All for a nice snowy picture! That's what Tom Till would do! He said "I follow the weather" in one of his books. Guess no one took advantage of it. Sorry, but that's the only way you'll get red rock snow shots... Well, except for Bob (Uinta angler), who's path crossed mine in Arches several years ago in January, although we didn't meet.

According to one web site. Abajo Mountain by Monticello got four feet.

I always thought that Island in the Sky got a decent amount of snow each year, but I guess I am wrong. You certainly have quite a few gorgeous images on your site with snow, but that's the benefit of living there I guess.

Just depends on the year. I looked back through all my old pictures and some are dry, some have snow. The snow is fleeting sometimes, or turns to red/brown mush...

It's the old story though, whether it's a ski town or place like this, if you stick around long enough - something will happen....

But seriously, I put out a Christmas card every year that's red rock with snow. My choices are really limited every year... And sometimes I get worried it won't happen.
