I miss the clatter and chatter of guinea fowl calls having lived in parts of the world were their calls rang over the hillsides mornings and evenings. Getting close can be a challenge. But I did find one that cooperated and allowed me to get full frame head shots. They are both ugly and beautiful at the same time.

Enjoy. Thank you for looking and C&C are welcome and appreciated.

Great portraits of this very colourful yet arguably ugly bird. Thanks for sharing.

These shots make the birds look better than what they do in the wild. #4 is very nice. I love it. Are these wild or domesticated?! Don

This is a wild bird that has become accustomed to people nearby.

I think these guys are a lot more attractive than most give them credit for. Really nice shots of them Braam. I may prefer seeing the whole bird in the case of these guys, the patterns of their feathers is quite pretty and their heads not so much! One of our guides in Bots referred to them as Spectacled Yum Yums It's nice to see something different being posted

That is a tiny head and a big body I agree with Tim that I think the body with its lovely patterning can be pleasing to include.
I think you did a great job on the set in some not so easy or flattering light!

Excellent shots of these birds. You almost make them look regal. It is very difficult to get close to these birds as they are extremely skittish. So nice work!

We have a bunch of Guineas we keep along with our chickens and sheep. They help keep parasites and bugs down in the pastures plus they are excellent early warning systems in case of overhead predators. However, they are ugly and they are actually very dumb...dumber than chickens (if that's even possible). But they do lay eggs which taste just like chicken eggs although they are smaller and have very thick, hard shells. And the meat is supposed to taste a lot like pheasant but I haven't tried one yet.

They are "cuter" when young (aren't we all?) and here is a shot of my wife holding a young hen.

Your head portraits of these birds are beautiful. While in Tanzania, one of my driver/guides, when asked for about the name, would call them "tasty"… followed by a wide grin

I agree with Tim who suggested a full body shot. The plumage on these birds is striking w/ black feathers and white polka dots.
