Some beautiful light you have captured. Great job controlling the exposure. Love the texture of the leaves in the foreground and how they complement the intense color of the sky.

Looks like there is a bit of a halo where you had to blend the tree into the sky (I am on a crappy laptop monitor, so maybe that has something to do with it). I would be tempted to crop/clone out the bottom left corner (can't tell what that is).

that is great sky with light catching the leaves.
maybe a selection based mask would be better in the area of the tree to avoid the halo. I am still a newbie at this....

Thanks for the replies. I thought there was a halo behind the left tree at first too but it is an area of cloudless sky in fact. There is little I can do about it -mavbe clone into or but l'd rather not.
I appreciate the feedback!

Great color in the sky and folliage. If you fix that halo around the tree and left side of the horizon it'll be a wall hanger.

Ute,

Great colors and cloud patterns. I Like the foliage colors as well. Yeah the halo on the tree does stick out but so long as your happy.

Hey Ute,

What a super sweet shot here, love the color!

As for the tree, I have had that happen too for me, where in real life the clouds where leaving a gap around some rocks or a peak. And while it was totally natural and not caused by a layer mask or such, it still looked like it was a bad layer mask job. Of course, that's natures fault and not mine, but for me it bothered me because it still looked like a halo, so I went in and had to take out natures halo... if you choose to do it, Barry has a super cool technique for doing that, hope he has shared that with you, if not ask him. Halo's like that are a 30 sec fix with his trick.

Ute

Good call on your part! A gorgeous sky with nice foreground. Dramatic and pleasing!

Mike

PS, I like where the tree is positioned. Looks like fire emanating from the tree!

Maybe Barry could post info or a link to this desirable "trick"??

Hey Ute,

I like the edit! I tell you, Barry is the man with that tip. He showed it to me maybe 3 or 4 years ago, and I use it so often since it's so easy and simple to fill in those slight gaps or halo's. And especially with trees with the difficult pattern of leaves this is a piece of cake.

For those who don't know, here is the trick (thanks to Barry)

1. Duplicate your layer
2. On the top layer change the blending mode from Normal to Darken. (in the Layer Panel Toolbox)
3. Select the Clone tool and size it according to the area that needs to be filled, usually it's a smaller size, 25 to 50. But size it as needed. Use an opacity between 80 to 100.
4. On the top layer Press the ALT key and click on the Clone tool in a darker area next to the "halo" area. This is your sample point.
5. Now over the halo area click on the Clone tool and paint the darker area. Usually this is clouds like in Utes shot here. Since the leaves are darker than the clouds, but that halo area was clear sky, the clone tool will only fill in the sky area.

I have found this useful around trees, but also along cliff edges or mountain edges. Sometimes the camera just seems to record a bright line next to the darker cliff that is only a couple pixels wide. This is an easy way to go back and fill that bright area in with the actual sky color.

Hope that helps those who haven't come across this little "trick".

Wow what a nice scene. I really like the pops of color the brush in the foreground give. Nice work.
