Copy your data files to other media ASAP. As for whether or not you can use the drive reliably after reformatting depends on the cause of your problem. If due to a head crash, no. If due to other magnetic field corrupting data, most likely you can use after reformatting. Sometimes mechanical wear throws off the indexing just a tad and a refrmat will allow the drive to work a bit longer. But, drives are so cheap, I'd replace it and have a few more trouble-free years. You may wish to go with an SSD instead. The Samsung 840 EVO, Crucial M500, and Sandisk Extreme are highly-rated choices.
