Ohh man this is going to be the best combo ever. I was hesitant to back spencer's magmod simply because I was loving my new Godox/Cheetah bare bulb flashes.

Now this comes out
http://www.lightingrumours.com/lithium-fuelled-godox-ving-speedlight-goes-sale-4840

650 full power pops, great recycle time, and the same easy remote power adjustment as you get with the cheetah lights. AND it should work with the magmod!!!! (and I bet the price will be lower once it hits more distributors)

This will not replace my key light (Godox ad-180), but it will make for killer rim lights. I normally hate these sort of posts, but I am super excited for this setup. My first wedding with the Godox/Cheetah setup was so much easier than dealing with remote ttl and manual adjustments through pixel/YN triggers.

And a link to magmod for those who are still in the dark
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spencerboerup/magmod-magnetic-speedlite-modifiers-for-hot-shoe-f

I am actually thinking of selling all of my ttl speedlights after this.

This was my excuse to back your project. 2x magmod is destined for my bag.

The Godox/Cheetah light quality is fantastic, but holy hell do they take up a lot of space in your bag. Also, for rim lighting I think I actually prefer the harsher light from speedlights. Now that I can get unified control + no more AA batteries + a grid that actually works, it becomes a no-brainer to stash two of these in my bag.

Not only that but the total cost is going to be well under $200 per light.

wonder how much power that thing puts out, and it it'll work with 3rd party triggers/receivers.

It has a standard flash pin on the bottom and a mini-jack, so yea. It does not seem to have a pc-port if you are the one person left on the earth who still prefers them.

same output rating as a 580exII

Also where can I get extra batteries? I'm paranoid and always like to have extra power.

A guy in china posted the prices of the individual components, I cant find it now, but I am waiting till more distributors get ahold of it.

It may come down to ~110ish. IIRC batteries were not super cheap though. At 650 full power pops though, I am not sure what you could possibly do to need a spare.

Lithium batteries are king at high current draw. This is very third party, so the ultimate risk would be fire. This is shared with any lithium packs.

That being said, the Cheetah/Godox ad-180 setup has been going well, and that is a more complicated setup. I am not worried.

-- Ohh, and you can set the power with the ft-16 and trigger with a secondary trigger system if you so choose.

That V850 flash looks awesome. I use three Lumedyne tinycyclers to keep my flashes going, but at that price with that battery life I might just sell them along with my YN 560's get the V850's and have cash left over.

looks rad. hopefully they make a trigger that works w/ nikon. triggers are usually not camera-dependent.
not sure why they'd need a nikon version.

The base trigger works with anything. The CellsII is an optional canon trigger that can do HSS using the stroboscopic feature.

I prefer using the HSS hack over true HSS for nikon though.

No, the pc port on an sb-900/sb-910 triggers when the first curtain starts to open on the shutter. (when above normal x-sync shutter speeds)

It can also be used to achieve rear curtain sync with OCF
