I'm using 35mm more and more again....using the 58 less as a result and really craving the 85/1.4G (never had the G).
85mm 1.4G is phenomenal. I already said this before, I have a feeling you will get rid of the 58G for 85G I would do the same if I hadn't owned a 70-200VRII. 85G is substantially better for portraiture & subject isolation than the 58G.
I know you sold your 135D so I'm assuming your 58 is a primary portrait lens?

I had the 1.8G probably (4) times, love/hate with that thing. Had a 1.4D, loved it, but grew tired of 85 and sold it.
My only hold back on dumping the 58 and going back to 85 is that 58 may be killer for newborn stuff; but then again 85 lets me be a hell of a lot more sneaky.
Dude these are sweet... I had a mini debate on 24G vs 35G but I know I needed to be "safe" with a wider lens for weddings. So now I really want to add a 35G to my kit since it's not that expensive... I'm gonna start looking for one before the wedding season starts...

The 1.8G is freaking tack sharp, by FAR the sharpest 1.8G Nikon makes. I actually roll my sharpening back on shots with it. I honestly think it's sharper than the Sigma @1.8.
Gosh, you guys are making me sweat here.. I have my ranges covered, but I've always wanted another prime. I do wedding work, but don't have one coming up for quite a while and have been itching to get a 58.... It's either the 58 or 35 right now. But since you guys mentioned the 35/85 combo being the better of the two I might go in that direction.
I just wonder how often I'd use it though considering the 24-70 is on my camera at least 60% of the time. The rest is split between the 85 and 70-200.
...ya’ll need to stop spamming and start shooting! Who cares, 85, 58, 85, 58, 85, 58, 85, 58... They’re just numbers that are reversed and nothing more!!
I'm definitely not a fan of the 85mm focal length. I have used the Sigma 85mm, sold it... thought I'd try it again with the 85mm F1.8g and sold that too. The 70-200mm is just to damn good.
i use the 58 and the 85 together it just depends on how much bokeh I want and how wide i want my shot.
the 58g lets me get a wider shot and still have beautiful bokeh though sometimes not blown out depeneding on my background distance and how far I can get away.
