I had a couple of plain old shots of mushrooms- and then Chris Daescher began posting his amazing and artistic mushie images; and I thought "What the hell?"
So I decided against posting my modest efforts.
But like most of the work you guys and dolls post on this forum- once I become reconciled to the fact that my stuff will never be that good- I go ahead and post them anyhow.
So here's a mushroom shot I took along the edge of Alaska's Kenai Lake.
It's an Amanita Muscaria- and it's toxic to humans.
It's also very pretty.

It is indeed a nice rendering of the fly agaric Charlie. Amanita muscaria is also one of the prettier ones around, as you suggest.

No false modesty, Karl. I know my place in the overall scheme of things: 8.2

For many years I was a damn good teacher- and a damn good traveler.
And maybe a couple other fields of endeavor.
Plus a whole crapload of things at which I was okay (plus or minus).
And a few things where I polluted the air with my stink (electronic/digital doodad humbuggery being at the top of that recent list).
To me what's most important is to know the truth of where you are about things. And I pretty much do.
About this image: Nothing at all wrong about it. Compared to the absolutely magnificent mushroom creations of Chris, however...

Or some of your (and others) florals.
Or a couple dozen fellow FMers and their birds-in-flight images.
Plus a bunch of etceteras.
I pay personal and silent homage to youse guys 'n' dolls so often that I wear out the metaphorical knees of my metaphorical britches from metaphorically kneeling so much.
And now I will shut up

As new comer here, you were one of the first to encourage me to continue posting. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who looks on in amazement at the shear beauty, thought and skill so many people hold above me. Knowing one's place is important but not being complacent and accepting is equally so. I'm going to post whatever catches my fancy. And, I hope I continue to be critiqued by the very people I admire so that at some point I will learn to respect my own work.
I look forward to many years of learning from you.

Don't be that hard to yourself, Charlie.
It's a pretty mushroom shot with nice glowing colors.
It's hard to capture really large mushrooms in another way then how we see them.
That's why I select very small ones and shoot at around f5 or wider.
Keep them posting my friend.

Your commentary is as grand as the image. I don't want to push you over the edge

but there are many that really look forward to your images and the worldly perspective you have. Never met but times it as if we had been BS'in on a trail somewhere!
