p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Focusing a manual TS lens with the D800 ...

Hi,

In this video, a person explains how to focus with a TS lens.
The camera being used is Nikon D7100. In order to focus,
the man used the LCD on the back of the camera. One does
not need to buy a TS lens to do it. There are lens adapters
with tilt and shift.

My question is, is it possible to focus with the D800, in the
same way it was done with the D7100. (I don't have a D800
at the moment. There are no rental places in the area
and nobody I have seen in this small town owns one. I'll
buy through mail order). It helps me to know. Focusing
that way may not be a feature included in the D800. I
will be getting an adapter as well for the lens I have.

Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,

Yes. Remember though that you lose one stop of DOF on an FX camera vs DX though.

The problem with lens adapters is that while they work, keep in mind that most lenses for DSLR have a pretty small image circle. An FX lens used on DX would give you a bit more room, but really there are two qualities about a T/S lens. First is that it has the movements built in, and the second is that it has a big enough image circle that prevents vignetting or softness away from the center. I've been shooting 4x5 for about 15 years and am familiar with these issues.

Yes, I use live view to focus my PC-E lens.... its a great advantage of today's DSLR for this kind of work.
