I'm thinking more like 30 foot wave () but since you live in CA and I'm landlocked by about 1,000+ miles on every direction I'll have to defer back to you :-)

Where exactly were you when you took this? On a board, in a boat,....?

This is a surf spot called Mavericks in Half Moon Bay California. I surf myself but had never even been in waves of this size before. My buddy took me out to the break on a jet ski. I had a pair of swim fins, a good wetsuit, and my 20D enclosed in a waterproof Aquatech housing. I swam in as close as I could to get this. It was hands down the most incredible ocean experience I've ever had. The guys who surf it are the top guys in the whole planet. When I would see the whole pack paddling out for the larger sets to get out of the way I would immediately start swimming for deeper safer water.

Waves are typically measured on the back... this would be a 20' wave, measured on the back (or as another poster mentioned '20' Hawaiian'), but the face is definitely closer to 30

Question from a land locked dude, I take it that means the front (face) of the wave actually dips lower than the back?
