Guy & Girl

We mix it up.
This is pointless...I want my 10 seconds back.

As I never separate a gentleman from his surname, this usually has me listing the ladies name first.

Jaboogy is the only one to state the protocol correctly. List the bride's name first because one does not separate the gentleman's first name from his surname.

Correct forms per protocol:
Karen and Ian Ivey
Mr. And Mrs. Ian Ivey

Properly the man's first name should not be separated from his last - or better yet -
Jaboogy and Ian Ivey have it correct.

Her name first on everything except the album. All my brides have insisted on having his name first on the book.

Has it ever occurred to you that this is maybe indicative that they'd prefer his name first in all areas?

I was doing it universally for a while (girl first) and then I began considering the orientation of the couple (culture/religion/personality). I do some girl first and some guy first.

I always put the man's name first and never thought of that. I'm a definite minority in this thread! Lol

Proper etiquette states that everything revolving around the wedding should feature the brides name first.

Monograms follow suit. Modern monograms should be bLg. Brides first name initial, grooms last, grooms first.

On the blog and their online viewing gallery we always do girl then guy with no last names. If somebody came to me and said they prefer guy and then girl then we would change it, otherwise I just assume they are fine with the girl name first or don't care enough to ask me to change it.

For the album we ALWAYS ask exactly how they want it, which is probably obvious.

I think if you don't want to ask which they prefer the safer bet is girl then guy. 95% of the time we are contacted by brides.

I think guy then girl is more traditional and "head of household" style. If you find that's the typical crowd you deal with then that may be the best route for you.

You're in the minority but you're in the right!

I've been asking every one of my brides for years how they want it and there is a strong preference for guys name first. That's what the brides want.

Ladies first unless they're Anthony and Cleopatra or Romeo and Juliet.

Like I said, I've been asking every client for years and the good majority of brides, themselves, want the guy's name first.
