Oddly enough, they've posted a survey on the Nikon website. To the best of my recollection, I cannot recall such a thing in the past and may reflect Nikon's internal ambivalence about the camera's specs:

Though I preferred to wait until I hold one in my hand, I filled it out anyways after seeing enough hands-on reviews from others.

Hopefully they will take the results seriously - be interesting to see the results published.

I spoke my mind and told them drop the price and then I would honestly consider purchasing one.

For me personally I think it is stunningly beautiful but I want to take photos with it not set it in a display case. So drop the price by about $500-1000 and I will literally fly my money over to Nikon's headquarters and hand deliver it too them.

If I were to wager a guess, 1) probably not and 2) definitely not.

You would have thought they'd done enough focus group research beforehand?

How much effort would it have been to log into FM and other sites to gauge the sentiments. Or simply look at Zeiss' sales of ZF lenses to figure out what to equip the thing with. Or remember how many millions of AI and AIS lenses are out there, most sitting idle.

I grew up with Nikon and Nikkormat cameras, and the nostalgic look of this one certainly is "cool" for a guy who paid 3 weeks salary for his first F2 Photomic with some lenses. But when i read the reviews I have to ask what's the point? Where's the market? 56 year olds (me) who are taken back in time by the looks of the front and top of the Df? That all crashes when I see the back, it's a digital SLR! I prefer to move forward. My D7000 is an amazing evolution of the first Nikons I owned and I don't want to go back. The most exotic feature I remember was the ability to double expose in camera. Wow.

I shoot DX and if I moved to FX, it would be a D610 or 800E.

Nikon would have done better to do a pre-production survey than the one in the link. Nice to know what folks want BEFORE producing it, no?

I also think it is expensive, but how much can they drop the price? "Drop the price $1000 and i'll buy it" sounds great. Is it possible?. What do you think a Df costs Nikon to produce and bring to your local dealer?

I gave them a piece of my mind. Price is crazy for the feature set. No manual focusing aid or interchangeable focusing screens makes little sense especially if they are going to support non-AI lenses.

I basically let them know three things:

1. DF is too expensive
2. It's too large
3 I would buy a d400

Thanks for the link. I left my feedback. My take on this camera...it's overpriced for what it offers. Who knows perhaps the Df2 will be the 12MP sensor from the D700, and they'll make it strictly for manual focus lenses and knock the price down to $1500...

As I've mentioned in other threads, Nikon needs to build on their legacy. Few other camera manufactures have such a rich history and Nikon's F mount lenses have that richness. Nikon failed to add such an important feature that could have brought in tons more sales. How many of us would have considered this camera if that one feature (interchangeable focus screens) were added? Even at the high price, I would have considered it.
