Funny, none of those gear-dweeby things helped me get any better.

All right, I'll try to play nice.
Santa can bring me a photo-specific backpack. That would be a useful upgrade to the old camera-bag-over-the-shoulder technique I've been suffering with since forever.

I suppose I should break down and buy a light, mid-sized tripod as well. Lugging my Slik Brick for several miles is definitely counter productive to my subsequent shooting ability.

Neos overshoes work very well and don't weigh much for you outdoor photographers.

Something I'm looking for right now is good spotting scope. Another learning curve.

Boots. Ignore the branding that says "hiking" or "trail" or whatever and just buy a sturdy pair that fit properly. Then wear them everywhere. The best and most comfortable "hiking" boots i have yet found are actually marketed as "military and police". Every "hiking" boot i ever bought gave me heel blisters.

LowePro Toploader 75 with chest harness. Takes a body with 70-200mm f/2.8 and will accept additional lens pouches etc on the side. The weight balances nicely against my backpack, and the camera is immediately accessible as i walk around. It even has a rain cover built in.

And like Jimmy, i have a Tilley hat.

I have four Tilley hats and usually travel with two, but you know I always need a backup.

So our count is equal. I also own four Tilley hats, and would be lost without having one on my head almost every moment I am outdoors. My first one was purchased around 2005, and back then it made it through every big rapid on a float trip down the full length of the Grand Canyon.

LoL, I also have four Tilley hats! My newest hat is a Henschel though & it is a winner as well but not as packable as the Tilleys.
I can also vouch that Neos overshoes are lightweight & great like garyroach said...two pair here.
