no time for detailed comment
the haze seems to be reducing some needed contrast
try USM 10-20/50/0, brush back effect as needed

Thanks for your comments, Scott. I am not quite familiar with photoshop. But I will give it a try tonight.

create a duplicate layer, then apply the USM sharpening settings. You will probably want to paint out some of the effect over the more contrasty, richer colors in the foreground and/or bottom of your images.

Do you use another program as primary for processing? You could try a bit of + clarity and contrast with a brush in LR, eg.

Yes, I mainly use LR. But I have not done any local adjustment yet.

CS4
USM approx 15/50/0 masked approx 70-90% over the foreground
highlight recovery

Second is LR4, settings below + inc clarity/contrast brush over distant hillsides

Another using ColorEfexPro 4 ND filter and selectively altering/masking saturation...

Scott's technique works quite well, you can try brushing in contrast in LR, I've never been able to master the fine technique - too heavy-handed and clumsy

This looks hot to me after posting but it can be toned back and fine tuned were one to take the time .... might not add any value to the discussion but it's up now.

Lovely scenery - too bad about the cars. Blue Ridge Parkway?

Woohoo, Scott and Bob. The photos after editing look really fantastic. I definitely need to learn the fine tune editing techniques. Thanks to both of you.

Re: Bob & RustyBug
The #4 picture was taken on US441 of the TN side. The scenery is very lovely - quite yellow out.

Thanks for all the comments.
