I just tried updating my firmware through the EOS utililty, It said to press the "set button" to start the firmware update, my camera appeared "off" and it didn't do anything, so I hit okay on the utlility, EOS utility,it disappeared, and now my camera is "bricked" Dead as a doornail. Any ideas......thanks!!!

Try updating by putting the update on the card - worth a try.

I had NO power to the camera, completely dead. I have got it going though, searched the internet and found someone with the same problem, it was the WI FI card that caused the update failure. I removed the card out of the SD slot and battery, finally DID get power back to camera (scared the crap outa me!). Firmware is now installed!!. IF you have a WI-FI card be sure to remove it b4 updating through the EOS utility

Thanks for the warning. I have not updated the firmware yet since new and was planning on doing that soon. I don't think mine has a WI-FI card. Is that an optional device or in the grip?

I guess technically its a EYE-FI card in the camera's SD slot for WI-FI connectivity to a ipad or computer

Same issue came up during the f/8 firmware update. Scared a lot of people. Obviously not enough people reported it to Canon so the problem continues.

Didn't know you could do that. I've learned something today...Thank you

Can you elaborate a little further on how to do this, and how it works.

Much appreciated

I always use the card - never the utility - it's just easier (safer?) and doesn't involve another app.

I had some little niggles with both cards in the slots. Took out the sd and was fine.

Works really well! The camera Eye-FI card sets up a network, in my case I'm using a ipad to view the pics so I find the network that the camera setup and hook to that, photos are then transferred to the Ipad here's a link
