water under arms needs a bit more blue to match the lighting above.

Very cool. Care to share your technique and processing?

The shot and processing are good, but the stadium lights are out of place. Doesn't fit with this sport IMO.

Monkey - 2 kickers from behind, a little beyond the edge of the lane, and main on the side of the pool. All bare speedlights. Radiopopper JrXs. D1X - can sync at any SS. What makes a difference, IMHO, is getting low - I was in the water. Only PP was high pass filter set to about 112, pinched the sliders. Easy peasy.

Oh, and a stool. The pool is 5' and I'm 5'6", so I wasn't as steady as I needed. Pic could be sharper.

Paul - good point, thx.

Thx, Walnut.

I have a follow up session tomorrow. Think I'll try letting more ambient leak in and put the main on a camera bracket. The heavy shadow on his right shoulder bugs me. And, I have a taller stool now

Thanks for looking, folks.

Dennis,
Since you plan to try again, one small comment. Attempt to capture the stroke just as the tips of the fingers emerge from the water.

A stool. Why didn't I think of that? Excellent idea.

Looking forward to your follow up shots.

From the follow up. A bit better, IMHO. I think I'll try to clone out the starting block and handrail.

C/C always welcome.

Hmm... second one is best in terms of timing, but came up soft. Yes, the handrail is a distraction. FWIW... I like the very first one the best. Just wasn't crazy about the stadium lights but it was more poster like. These are just too heavily shadowed for my taste.

Yeah, I think I'll need to put a softbox on a stick and give it to the mom to help out.

Thanks, Paul.

Denn... with a D3s don't be afraid to give it a go with ambient.

I hear ya, Paul.

For swim meets, I use the D3s at ambient from time-to-time; however, there's nothing like flashing swim, IMHO. I also have a 2 flash Rube Goldberg set up that I use with the D1X.

I digress.

I'm trying to come up with something different, something more dramatic - a one-on-one swim sportrait session; hence, the lights.

With a layer and blending mode, I came up with this. I'll see what momma says.

Always appreciate your input.

I thought the first one was original. I liked that it was dramatic. Yes, it's not what you expect but that's why it worked for me.

I also liked the light in the last one but would prefer sharper water.

I prefer the black BR over the stadium lighting. Simple works!

Shoot some side lighting, over come ambient with f11 and you have a simple black BR.

Andy.

Is it just me or are the photos gone from the original post? Anyway to re-attached them?

Look gone to me too. The <img HTML tag is not showing up in the source code, so I assume they were removed by the poster, DennisC.
