p.1 #1 · Water mark and or disable right click?

Preparing a new site where I hope to sell my photographs. How do I display them well but prevent theft?

Disable right click, why not. But that will only stop the computer clueless. Others will just screen capture.

Watermarks are annoying but probably best if you want to display anything remotely decent quality.

And never ever display originals.

^^^^^this.

most commercial software will allow you to set a max viewable image size -- keep 'em under 1K pixels per side, which is fine for screen viewing but will limit the value of the capture to the capturer.

Thanks to you all. When you say don't display originals, do you mean the print quality resolution?
Can't someone just copy and use photoshop to change the size and resolution?

they can sure try, but results will be dismal - nowhere near the print quality of a full-rez file.

keep 'em in the 1,000x1,000 pixels size and sticky-fingers won't be able to do much more than use them as screensavers.

Backprint is free . Good customer service and quality. Plus you can get them on the phone. Might be a good start if money is tight. They take a percentage of sale .
Don't "reinvent the wheel". This is a great time to sell pics.
Get a website up ASAP. Keep it simple. Save the projects for Jan/Feb.
Post small thumbnails with a nice healthy watermark. It is all we got for protection!
