p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · High in the Andes----an Indio Family

Direct descendants of the native people who had lived in the region for thousands of years before the Inca ruled.
As mentioned in previous post, these women were alongside a dirt road in the high elevations of the Sacred Valley of the Inca (near Cuzco), and were tending their family llamas (and their children), and spinning wool, knitting, and selling their goods to the few tourists that might drive by and stop.

Thanks, guys.
Yes- the Peruvian Andes was a different world for me.
And at 12,000 feet, it had much less air to breathe, also .

Glad you like the post, Kenny.
There is actually a lot of history and tradition that goes with all the "funny" hats; dealing with their families, village, etc.
The best way to see hats is at the biggest weekly market in the region.
People from all over the region (well- as far as they can walk) come to sell and buy.
And the variety of hats is magnificent.
Personally, I think the hats are wonderful.
Unfortunately, those for sale were generally sized for Peruvians- which are notably smaller people than most westerners.

Thanks Lisa and Aub.
It's been a long period of extensive travel for me, Lisa.
I missed out on a lot of things in order to do it- but overall the sacrifices are outweighed by the experiences. I don't recommend it for everyone- but for me it worked out well.
Images made 30+ years ago.
