I saw the lens at the Leica Booth this past Thursday and spoke to the new Advertising rep for Leica. It is a Summicron Cine lens and lists for about $16,000. It needs special adapters and mounts to the M240 and is designed so that a director with his own Leica M240 can then mount the same lens onto the video camera.

That is a very cool Director's viewfinder indeed. Great for setting up the shot. Bonus that it can take great images also. I hope the local rental house gets a set. They do have a bunch of Cooke S4 lenses and also some Arri Ultra primes but the Leica C lenses look amazing. They are also not large for a cine lens. The new Zeiss 55mm f1.4 is large and heavier than this lens I believe.

Leica is still working on the Summicron Cine line of lenses and it is not complete yet. I forgot the total number to be included. It is the less expensive line to the Summilux line of Leica lenses.

well when the recent lens comparison was posted for cine lenses I personally liked the Zeiss master primes the best, but the cine summicrons were really fantastic.

I wonder how close to the 50AA this is. tangentially related as a cine lens it has to have zero breathing right?

The comparison I saw recently used the C-Summilux lenses, and they were outstanding. They were generally the only lenses tested (including the Zeiss Master Primes; all lenses were f/1.4) that had almost no chromatic fringing around very-bright light sources in the frame. There's more to life than that of course, but it's interesting to see that Leica has really done their homework in making a set of cinema primes.

Wayne,

And don't ask the price of the Leica 50mm Summilux Cine lens; I don't really want to know.

Rich & Spyro, those are telescopes. They don't count!

...and Spyro, that Canon DIGISUPER 100AF is nice (930mm f/4.7), but it's puny compared to the Zeiss Apo Sonnar T* 1700mm f/4.

P.S. the lens rear cap is a Hassy.

Then there is always this one:

http://www.popphoto.com/gear/2012/08/worlds-most-expensive-lens-unsurprisingly-leica

Justin Stailey of Leica told me that there is one that the Sheik has, the original prototype in the Leica Museum, and one for parts (unassembled).

The lens is only 1600mm f5.6 with a selling price of $2,000,000.

Yeah, but those lenses aren't practical. You need something you can hand-hold at least, plus..who wants to spend as much as a house on a lens? This is my future walk-around lens - nice, small, cheap!

I'll stick with my cheap $222k Canon digisuper, thanks, I dont need snotty german lenses or second rate stuff from sigma. Or maybe I'll take the Fuji equivalent at $205k so I can save $17k

seriously, go to 0:11 to see what this lens can do... 100X zoom out and in without losing the focus point. kinda mindblowing

OK, I have to ask. What are those connectors on the camera strap. Looks like some kind of cool quick disconnect hooks?

Indeed pretty mindblowing. Had to laugh though when the commenter mentioned "permeability" as an aspect of the lens's optical performance.
