if you have luck and skill you can get real close to these birds of prey and shoot with a wide lens

or if you can find one that doesn't move at all ...... ever

Stumbled across this thread - some pretty funny comments ... but HEY, while not shot with a 30mm lens, here's a "closeup" of a real Cooper's Hawk - more in this FM thread.

BTW, I'm puzzled why the eyes are Yellow in your "stiffy" picture ... at least from what I've seen (and read), the adults have red eyes and I have not seen yellow in the hawklets.
