Give it to me straight. What do you love & what do you not love. First time I've designed an album in a couple years.

Scott,
First thought: I think you should open with a stronger image of the b&g. It's a cute idea to start with that detail shot, and I get what you're trying to do, but the first page is incredibly valuable real estate for book design.

My quick impression is that you are trying to use too many photos -- particularly in the earlier portions. It makes it look busy. Not sure if that's because the client picked a lot of photos or because you feel you need that many to tell the story.

In general though, I think the layouts are pretty clean even though a few have too many photos (for my taste).

I'm not sure that introducing a black background makes sense in the middle of the album when almost all the rest are white.

Hope that helps--some of this may just be personal taste.

edited to add: be careful about placement on some of your photos on the spine. you may get some pretty harsh creases/cuts through the middle of people's faces like spreads 4, 11 and possibly 19.

first two you have the crease line close to a separator, that will look very uneven (even if the book is gutterless)

#19 you will have the crease very close to the grooms head.

Edit after dhp's edit..... dang looks like there are a ton of spread where the crease could be cutting it close. Always check where the centerline is. (2,3,4,11,13) 19 may be fine, iffy on that one.

Edit #2.... I am with dhp again. Ditch the black.

on spread #4, I would switch images 2 & 3 with each other

11 makes me feel like I have vertigo, too much tilt or crookedness for the way I felt that page should look

everything else looks good

Thanks for the feedback. I'm heading out now but I'll try to get some updated pics up tonight. A few thoughts -

- I also was thinking that I was using too many photos. I was struggling on trying to decide which ones to include. I'll cull through them again and try to get it looking better. I'll just have to think "less is more"

- I'll check the centerlines again, but they should be safe. I was really checking those earlier. I'll get rid of the black background as well.

- I'll switch images #2/3 on spread 4 as well. Now that you mention it I like it better.

With the vertigo image (spread 11) they were on a slight hill so I'm gonna end up with either tilted trees or tilted people. I'm also thinking of moving the 2 images on the right over to center them in the white space.

Scott, yeah I'd cut 1/2 the photos or make the album twice as long. Nothing wrong in upselling

I personally love spread 11. Love those bridal party groups, the light and your photos/editing look a-m-azing!

I hate seeing twenty spread albums. Just too short in my opinion with too many images per page. Moar pages.
