Ptarmigan in there transition plumage. We had very light snow this morning but not enough for the mostly white plumage they have now. They are hiding deep in the brush and are very wary of the falcons and fox until mother nature makes them less visible. .
Great shots! You can really see how they'd be nearly invisible in that brush earlier in the year, but they really do stick out like a sore thumb right now.

When they are in there full brown(summer) or all white (winter) plumage they are very easy to approach but during the transition phase they are very difficult to approach
