Interview: Sony A7 & A7R and RX10 cameras
David Flores at B&H Photo interviews Sony's USA sales manager Michael Bubolo on the new Sony A7 & A7R Full-Frame and RX10 cameras. It's an interesting interview touching on the new technologies, adapters and a road map for the full frame E-mount lenses.
Michael mentions that 20 FE lenses will be released by 2015. Watch the video:

It's going to get lost in the general response to the A7 series, but the RX10 is pretty startling, some very impressive technology and no doubt much attention to internal tolerances - it uses the same lens inside the body rear set sensor plane as the RX1.

24-200mm covers most everything, Incredibly versatile, strong body, SSM, high end aperture dial, weatherproof, lots of customisability and connectivity, 17x focus magnification (!), peaking, eye focus, all of range at f2.8.

What a travel camera. I wonder about high ISO, 'diffraction-reducing technology' which seems new - found nothing on Google. And 'area-specific noise reduction'. Bet the jpegs looks great.

$2300 for the a7r is just sick.

Totally agree, Philip_pj. I'm looking forward to the RX10 as the travel camera of choice replacing my Canon G12 and perhaps even the Canon SL1. Now, I don't have to take my pro cameras to cover the range. It's just a good alternative for lighter load. Can't wait to see actual field tests with it before I pull the trigger.

Sflxn, this reminds me a bit of the old Canon Powershot Pro 1 that had a 28-200 f/2.8 lens on a 1.6 crop. It only had 8 megapixels but what a camera for its time.

Anyone know is it's on display yet at B&H? I went there last Thursday and it wasn't ...but with this new video, I'm sure the have it in the building.

Please chime in when they have it or if you see it on display

@philip: You forgot to add 5K 60fps video to the list.

"The RX10′s sensor reads out the entire 5472 x 3080 frame at 60fps sending the maximum amount of raw video data to the image processor."

The Pro 1 only had a 2/3" Sensor and a f/2.5-3.5 Lens:

Canon Powershot Pro 1 has 2/3 or 1/1.7 sensor not 1.6crop sensor.

re esanchez "Totally agree the first thought that came to mind on the RX10 is perfect vacation camera...."

The rx100 with 1" sensor scores less resolution than the eos-m [which has interchangable lens]. I suspect the Rx10 will do so too. So I think the eos-m with 22/f2 might be a more perfect vacation camera. With about 25% more resolution.

see dxomark and use the rx100 selection in the drop down menu
http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Camera-Lens-Ratings/Optical-Metric-Scores

With the new hardware update, the EOS-m (with adapters and really tiny lens and 11-22 IS) is better.

Sometimes we need to obsess less with the scoring metrics and see what works as a photographic experience.

On this summer vacation, my RX1 along with an RX100 worked great as a combo. I processed the images similarly, and I got a coherent set of photos which I like quite a bit. The RX10 just announced actually got me more excited than the A7/A7r - the lens versatility of the RX10 (and hopefully focus speed/optic performance), along with the additional ergonomics like an EVF, seems exactly what the 1'' sensor needs. I could see the RX1 + RX10 as a perfect combo for me (with my wife still keeping the RX100 which is super tiny).

EOS20 and Ints1978, you guys are right. I stand corrected on Powershot Pro1 specs. Mine got stolen in Barcelona several years back.

I was also interested in the RX10 when it was first announced, it looks like a good camera and if it produces images as good or better than the RX100/II it would make a nice alternative to a d/SLR but then I saw the Australian price which is $1500!

This is the stereoid-popping, body-building older brother to the DSC-F828!

Wasn't a big tall guy with very curly dark hair was it? He took my Powershot and a lot else.
