Soft, slow AF in less than ideal light...gotta stop down to f10 >~350mm for 1/2 way decent IQ
No match for the AF-S 300 f4 and TC-17E II. Might be sample variation amongst copies, the one my
BIF/rodeo buddy had was a dog on his D300/D7K. Afraid ya probably gets what ya pay for with one.

Well, maybe close in and static are acceptable...I'd hesitate to say "great" BIF/wildlife
at any distance with appreciable movement, however. It's probably a decent zoo lens.

I had that lens and AF was very slow on D300. I don't think I was ever able to get a BIF photo with that combo. However, stopped down a bit and in decent light, IQ was decent.

A lot of the pictures in this gallery were shot with the Sony a700 and the Tamron 200-500. As already said, it is a slow lens and needs good light to have much hope at all.

+1 to what the guys said... I liked the Sigma 150-500 OS better, but as Will said the 300 AF-S f/4 is another level with or without TCs...

If you want the versatility of a zoom, the new 80-400VR is excellent, even the older AF-D version would be better.
