Design-wise their target is of course Leica M. I believe the newer CZ MF lenses will be very special, better than the now eight year old ZMs...much has changed with Zeiss, viz. RX1 Sonnar, FE 55mm and Otus, all from the last 15 months. These new MF lenses will have a known sensor target and full feedback from partner Sony, who can be expected to be very keen to further establish themselves as a premium brand.
That sounds very much like the final solution...and an extremely good reason to see the a7r as a longer term proposition. It will also entrench FE full frame as the image connoisseur's choice of format because it alone covers the rich history of past FF lenses (except the M wide angles) and the future releases by no doubt many makers. Not many will be downsizing, as mirrorless just turned itself inside out.
Michael, Zeiss are working on them now:
'We are currently working on manual focus lenses for these new full-frame CSCs. They will have an interface to provide EXIF data to the camera. They are expected to be in stores by the end of 2014. However, we cannot provide any additional infos right now.'
Await those infos with great interest!
