Thanks for the report!
Did you run any tests with any of your lenses? If so, how the edges compare when shooting with your 5D Mark III?

I agree, I'm hoping Sony adds this. Btw it would be a delay between the 2nd curtain closing at the start of the sequence and the 1st curtain opening. Olympus MFT bodies have this configurable delay - it's called "anti-shock delay" in the menu.

Anti-shock delay and full RAW would be great firmware options for studio and landscape photographers.

Hi Fred, thanks for taking your time to read it. Without comparison, the results using that adapter are fine but I have not done any direct comparison of the same subject using the same lens under the exact same shooting conditions. Well, to a certain degree, we would be comparing a 22MP camera with a 36MP camera, which is not directly apple to apple. I still can do it but I have to go right now and will do that later or maybe tomorrow. Quite a bit of family things I need to take care of and I hear my wife in the background already.....

I just run some vibration tests using my 70-300L + Metabones tripod foot mounted on a L-bracket.

Conditions: It was a little windy but there were not shakes at 14% magnification during the entire shooting. I used ND filters (including the big stopper) for the long exposures. Tripod with spikes on my lawn. The set-up seemed very well balanced. RRS BH-40 ballhead, Sony USB shutter remote and Gitzo GT 3541 tripod.
PS: Difference in color balance due to use of big stopper and 0.9 ND filters. No post-processing done to any image.

Thanks fred. I do see some minor vibrations on some of your samples, but it's not as bad as the ones from KiboOst.

Thanks for the samples, Fred.

a7r w/100-400L @ 400mm Handheld MF. I'm starting to really enjoy the EVF, I have never used one until now.

Heavy cropped, I still can't believe the detail I get. My Canon AF would have focused on the branches on this one.

Cropped.

This test is not conclusive but we are starting to see a pattern.
Both 200mm and 300mm focal lengths tested exhibit a small motion blur from about 1/25s until 1/125s. Full stops above and below this range were sharper, including 20 and 30 second exposures.
When shooting above 135mm at this shutter speed range on a tripod without IS, it may be advisable placing a bean bag on top of the lens for blur-free results.

I would not be surprised to see similar results from the Nikon D800/E SLRs.

I would agree, actually if memory serves the D800 was probably a little worse, but with MLUP/Exposure delay the D800 of course has a usage path to blur-free results.

Remember my test was 400mm with target distance at 100meters if not more. As the distance increase the effect as vibration induce angle movement, the nearest the subject the less effect is seen. Thanks Fred for the test, show less effect but it is there in sensitive shutter times.

Fred, if you could try vertical grip with RJ collar mount, both horizontal and vertical, seeing if it doesn't make handling awkward and still can mount it on tripod, I would really appreciate. If it does, I think I will change my metabones for it.

I was doing some testing today with the RJC adapter and the 24TS-E. I noticed that at full shift in either direction, there is mechanical vignetting (it appears at the top of the frame if shifted down, and the bottom of the frame if shifted up). I have an old "dumb" EF to e-mount adapter which I tried and it doesn't show this effect.

Wondering, have you noticed this with your adapter? I'm wondering if this is a design flaw or if I got one slightly out of spec.

^ Not sure if this is the answer you are interested in, but I have seen reports from people using the 24mm and 17mm TS-E, mounted on the Metabones III.

No mechanical vignetting, except the 'ordinary' vignetting which also shows on Canon DSLRs.

Thanks. Good to know about the Metabones, in case I want to go that route. But I was curious on the RJC. I really like the RJC except for the vignetting at max shift, all I can surmise is that it's because the square baffle is just a bit too small, so I'm just trying to figure out if it's just the one I got.

No, mine doesn't have any of those issues that you described. Their original adapter was designed for the APS-C NEX. Recently, with the introduction of the A7r, they made the modification to accommodate the FF format. I specified and stressed that on my order to make sure that they sent me the right adapter for the FF A7r.

Does anyone have auto shutdown working ?
There is the option in the menu (power save start time) but mine never goes down. Maybe due to Metabones, dunno, but what about you ?

+1 better than KiboOst, but not sharp. It also looks like the are shoot at rather close distance. Imagine 400-500mm at very far distance. That would not look good at all

Check the setting for the remote control. If it is enabled then the auto shutdown is not activated.

This is a gear thread to work out any camera issues and exchange ideas on accessories. There is an A7 image thread here.
