My friend in San francisco had an accident with his D800.
He's got splashed with salt water when shooting on a jetty . Making things worse, he showered the D800 with water, thinking it is WATERPROOF! Mistaken the weatherproof as waterproof.

Anyways, the camera won't be covered by Nikon warranty, they are asking way too much for the repair. Any suggestion for a repair facility (reasonable cost) for this type of damage?

He also has a 28-70/2.8 AKA the Beast with non-working AF to fix. Thanks for your suggestion.

A P S in Morton Grove IL..

I've sent F2as, a slew of AI glass, couple of speedlights, and 1 pro body in to them over the last 30 years. Never been anything but 100% top-notch service and communication. And more importantly, I don't thing I've ever had me pants pulled down by them.

Just top shelf all the way round. Much more competitive than OEM service, especially off warranty work.

+1 for APS

Sent them a few things over the years, from bodies to speedlights to lenses.

Always great service and top notch work.

My one experience with APS was also positive. Unlike Nikon's repair service, everyone says nothing but good things about them.

But just to set your expectations- my GUESS is that seawater + D800 means that your friend's cheapest option will be to buy a new D800 (or functional used).

Might want to check with APS before sending it in. In this post it says they are unsure about getting parts for a D800. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1246706

Do have him call APS. After my recent fall of my D800 , I called APS . They were unsure about how long it would take and part availability. I ended up sending mine to Nikon.

APS, though approved by Nikon to do so, won't do work on F6. Midwest Camera Repair won't do it either, saying to "send it to Nikon." Just FYI
