p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · n00b question: how many images to deliver?

No number was stipulated in the contract ("At the discretion of the photographer"). After culling, processing and creating a set that I think tells the story without being too redundant (or leaving them without multiple choices for their own preferences) I have:

140 getting ready (might trim this, but have some cool sequences that I like and which would make a neat storyboard page)

250 Ceremony, and includes shots of guests before/after the ceremony. (could definitely cull multiples of same positions/moments here, but I don't really know which they will prefer - as a performer headshot specialist I'm used to folks wanting to choose their own expressions!).

43 formals (6-8 of each grouping, plus a few extras I thought were cute, eg kids)

60 bridal portrait/bride & groom alone after the ceremony

155 Reception (sit down luncheon, no dances)

Too many? Not enough? I'm kind of out of my element here, so advice warmly welcomed!

How many hours of coverage was this? The ceremony and formals seem a little heavy to me. 6-8 shots of each grouping? Are these different posed sets or the same posing but 6-8 shots of each? I tend to give 2-3 shots of each pose, if expressions are different.

Thanks! As a headshot specialist, I think nothing of delivering 200 shots from a portrait session, so I suspect my concept is rather skewed lol Short wedding - about 5hrs. Two shooters (it was my first wedding, so I had an experienced pro come and do it with me. SO. SO. GLAD. I did that!)

For the formals, it's the same pose, I"ve just included as many shots as there were people in it eg B&G with parents, 4; wedding party, 10. etc. I reckoned they could find one of themselves they liked that way, but I'm probably overthinking it lol

Ceremony has a lot of musician shots in the mix (B&G are professional musicians, so lots of high-end performances as part of the day). However, I do have "multiples" of certain moments which can probably be whittled down.

Anybody else? All thoughts welcomed - gotta learn!

For 5 hours, that seems like quite a few images. If I had to make a guess, for a 5-hour day I would probably end up delivering around 350-400. This is not a set number I am going for...rather it is around the number I would get down to after culling

Don't break it down like that. What's the total count of images?

Based on five hours, two shooters, and as long as there aren't tons of repeats or so-so shots, I think you're at a fair number. Don't worry about hitting any particular number as much as just making sure to show good work all the way through.

Er.... ~gets out calculator~ (it's broken down like that because I grouped it into collections to edit both shooters' images consistently) - it's about 650 all told. Some will be offered in B&W as well as colour, too, so I guess I'll deliver around 700 (?)

Going through now and being a little more ruthless with the repeats, particularly in the ceremony; unless there's a REASON to have more than one, out it goes.....

Thanks all!

700 for a 5 hour day... I think that sounds fine, but in reality, what does it matter what I think? It is your business and you are the artist. You define what makes the grade for you and what is right for the clients you have and for the wedding they had....
