Curious how this combo renders files and would love to see some sample images. Love the Canon version of the F4....as good?....Better?

I don't have a D800, but the image quality on my D600 and D7100 is rock solid.

The Nikon is right up there with the Canon version - they're both incredible lenses. I like it so much that I just bought a backup copy and plan to sell my f/2.8. The weight savings is significant and I mostly shoot at f/4 or smaller for DOF anyway.

Here's a nightscape at f/4 on my D800. Pardon the JPEG posterization.

Loved the Canon as a walk around lens.....2.8, not so much...

Can't speak for it on a higher-MP body, but I'm loving my f/4. Awesome and I love the carry weight vs. my old f/2.8.

Great lens...sold my 2.8 VR2 and bought this for easier portability. Below are a bunch of images I took with the D800E and 70-200/4 on a trip to Indonesia earlier this year.

I just don't understand why it is so much more expensive than the Canon version. I got my used 70-200 F4 IS for about $900, whereas I can't seem to be able to find any used 70-200 F4 VR for less than $1200-ish. That, and the fact that it would cost me at least $1000 more to replace my 100-400L (purchased used for $1250) with a used 80-400G, is what's keeping me from considering Nikon.

Both Canon and Nikon have been introducing their new lenses at very high price points and then letting them drift down once early adopter demand subsides. There have been a few 70-200 f/4 VR on B+S that have gone for $1100 or less.

Both the Nikon 70-200 f/4 and 80-400 AF-S are new lenses with new tech that just came out. The Canon 100-400 and 70-200 /4 have been out for many years. That's the reason for the high price. When Canon comes out with updated versions of these, they will also be in line with the Nikon price.
