When I used to shoot with Nikon, I would sometimes use the E-M5 with the PW TT1/TT5 to fire my PCB Einsteins. It required a 1/125 or slower shutter speed but it worked. However, thanks to Nikon’s shoddy manufacturing and service struggles, I switched to Canon, and have since bought PW TT5 for Canon.

However, the Canon TT5’s do not trigger the E-M5 and now the E-M1. With the PocketWizard Utility, I tried changes like “Normal E-TTL” (which allows changes via AC3) to “No Change (trigger only)”. I also tried using the PC Sync connection on the E-M1 and it will still not trigger. I tried the Yongnuo triggers on the E-M1 and it fires without fail.

Has anyone had success getting the OM-D cameras to work with the Canon PW TT5 and if you have, would you mind uploading the setting or *.dat file?

Did you try setting the PWs set to one of the standard channels? If they are not and are instead set to the controlled ttl channels, they wont fire.

Thanks for taking a stab at this, but the PW MC2 receivers on the PCB Einstein E640 require the ControlTL Cannel to fire. When I had the Nikon version of the PW TT5’s it fired fine with the ControlTL channel. The TTL function on the AC3 did not work with Nikon speedlights, but the M setting worked fine, plus with the Einsteins I always had it set to M. That is why I am at my wit’s end.

I emailed PW and I am awaiting their reply. But I am sure I will get the canned answer that the TT5 is designed to be used with a specific camera and it is not to be used with other makers. Yea, I get that, but why did the Nikon version work? I just need it to act as a dumb trigger, I have the Sekonic 478DR that I would use to control the moonlight settings.

I found a somewhat clumsy solution for the E-M1. Unfortunately, this will not work with E-M5 because it lacks a proper pc sync connection:

male pc to pc cord
cold/hot shoe adapter (http://www.flashzebra.com/hotshoes-shoes/0064.shtml)

I look forward to using my E-M1 for studio use.
