Nikon D610 officially announced

Nikon officially announced their new D610 24MP full-frame DSLR with a redesigned shutter mechanism hopefully addressing the oil-on-sensor issue reported by many D600 shooters.
Beyond this, it's equipped with an improved white balance, a new quiet continuous shooting mode and faster continuous mode (now up to 6 fps). It starts shipping on October 18, 2013 for $1,999.95.

hhmmm...decision time..have $50 Best Buy reward to use...they'll match the Crutchfield $1799 for D600 so $1750 for 600 or $1950 for 610...guess while waiting for the 610 availability watch the 600 prices..if they drop another hundred to $1699 sweetens the pot...$300 less than a 610 sounds like the way to go

Skip the D600 and get the D610 AFTER people confirm that there are no more oil issues. Don't even consider the D600 which will be selling used for next to nothing because so many are duds. The $200 extra dollars isn't worth the hassle and aggravation.

Two thumbs way down to Nikon, I really feel for D600 users.

mehh... gimme a D700 w/ video... that's all I want.... my D700 is over 5 yrs old, and aside from video (which is a minor point) it has never left me wanting anything more... I am seriously thinking about getting a second D700 for next summers wedding season... if not a D700, then a D3s... but there's a big jump in price between the two!

So I haven't checked on this but is Nikon "repairing" all the D600's with the oil problem or are they just acknowledging "yep there's a problem" and not doing anything about it and now they have released the D610?

Well, my father had a dud, brought it in for cleaning. The work order had a ton of extra stuff including changing the shutter mechanism and what not. The problem is still there though. So buyer beware. If you go down the route of the D600 (don't), carry some cleaning material if you care about the output in some very specific situations.

Or just wait a bit longer and pick up a D610 when early adopters give the rest of the community the "all clear".

I would also just wait longer anyway for the holiday sales to start up. Nikon might decide to over a free 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 again with the D610.

For the price of the D610, maybe a tad more, you can get a used/refurbished D800, a no brainer if you ask me. Although the 6FPS instead of the D600's 5.5 is really tempting

*SIGH*- the 39-pt AF, not the 51-pt that the D7100 got... guess my two D700 will carry on til I can afford two D3s.

Would have loved the D610 quiet shutter, though.

If Nikon put in a 51-AF and 1/8000 speed with 1/250 flash sync... a lot of serious amateurs and pros would simply forget about the D800.

Need a Nikon body with a truly quiet shutter on Q mode.

I don't understand Nikon's decision of launching Nikon D610 to hide the shortcoming of older Nikon D600.They should have accepted the problem with the Nikon D600.

Exactly. The D610 announcement is just a brazen statement of contempt for Nikon's customers.

D600 prices are going to fall through the floor because of how poorly Nikon handled this.

As a D600 shooter for almost a year now, I have no regrets in my decision to buy the D600. Granted, I must have been one of the lucky few who didn't have any of the oil issues that seem be be popping up rampantly all over the world. I also don't flip cameras every two years either, so while I'm sure the value of my camera will drop -- I never bought it as an investment anyway. I still think its a fantastic camera, especially since I am not a Nikon purist and spent the last 10 years before the D600 shooting Canon. Hopefully this minor tweak will soothe the troubled hearts and minds of Nikon Nation and the stigma of being a D600/D610 user will finally subside.

Most lame update in DSLR history. New badge, grease & oil change and here you go suckers

Only good news is that D600 prices will plummet further so should be some great deals leading up to Christmas.

Cheers

They are supposedly repairing it.

At least it's cheaper! Plus Nikon has done this before so it might be tied for the "most lame"

They did acknowledge the D600's issue. Think of the D610 as trying to "make things right" for those purchasing new. Would be nice if they had a special trade in for existing D600 users but that will never happen.

This was the main upgrade I wanted as well. Too bad...
