WTB posts should not require a paid membership.

Is it because paid memberships reduce fraudulent activity? If so, then only allow those with some +ve feedback to post for free.

I'm looking for some items and I'd like to buy from FMers but I don't want to pay to do that.

And so, what is the point?

Rules are set by the web owner.

Fred wants your money for WTB. You don't want to pay. You can not use WTB. You have craiglist, ebay and a lot of other places to search for items...

Simple as that

lol, it is what it is . . . and yes WTB posts should cost us.

Don't you think FM is a the best site online to buy and sell used photography stuff?

And don't you think Fred deserve to make some $$ from his site? I think so.

Actually, I did have a paid membership. I ended up selling most of my items on ebay for more $ than I was selling for here, even after ebay fees.

I'm sure somebody would love to spend their time sitting around watching to see if each post is WTB or not.

Its simple really, people would have free access to wtb, so the people selling the items wouldn't need a paid account. They could still for free too.

Does $25 (or is it $24) a year really put a hole in your pocket? That's like what? 4 or 5 drinks at Starbucks? 3-4 meals at McDonald's? I'm sure you'll live.

Real reasons why you have to pay for WTB threads: Fred moderates the forums, especially the buy+sell, EXTREMELY well. That and anyone who may WTB something expensive should at least show that they're willing to put down $25 for a yearlong (yes, ONE FULL YEAR) opportunity to post WTB threads. It also deters scammers who may not pay the $25 if they are unsure if they can scam anyone here (for the most part, I think most of us are fairly, if not VERY careful).

Besides, if you really want an alternative to being able to post WTB threads, you could just go through all the FS: [item you want] threads and just PM every one of them with a copy+pasted message. More work, but saves you the precious $25 a year.

Because, genius, I want to help FMers by BUYING their items, not selling to them.

If Fred wanted to offer a $5 upload membership, I would go for that. But, $25 per year to sell items is not cost effective for me.

Hi Jon,
There is no membership needed for buying items. It's free.

I know. But if I want to buy something that isn't currently listed, there's no way to let someone know that I'm looking.

Make WTB posts visible to paid members only which would prevent scammers like I've seen in the past.

1) FS posters are almost always more serious than WTB posters (that's why they pay the $25!). That's also why you see so many more FS threads than WTB threads.
2) FS posters are required to list price, WTB are not.
3) WTB posts are somewhat redundant. Since most of the B&S threads are FS, it's easier for a WTB person to just search for the item. If it's not up, then it's less likely that a person who has it will sell it (because they would've just posted a FS thread, no?) That and since most WTB threads don't list a price, why would a FS person bother with all the back-and-forth for a person who might only pay less than what the FS person could get in the B&S threads?/

Think about it this way: in Craigslist and all other free listings, why do most people post Sell threads and not WTB threads? On eBay, why don't they have WTB threads? There's a wish list, yes, but it only shows items FOR SALE, not ITEMS PEOPLE HAVE BUT MIGHT NOT SELL at whatever price you wish to pay for them.

Do you have any idea what it costs to run a web site as big as this one?

Obviously not.

Fred lets you use his web site to do everything but buy and sell.

Seems to me, you are a very ungrateful and selfish person.

Of course, that's just my personal opinion.

You should keep your personal opinions to yourself.

Unless, you're just trying to be a douche. But that would just be my personal opinion.
