Most likely K-3 will have output rather similar to D7100, if not better.

Of course if you expected same quality as from 16 mpix sensor, then you need to repeat some lessons in physics.

I don't follow really. The Nikon 7100 uses a Toshiba sensor, not a Sony sensor. The NEX-7 uses an older Sony 24MP sensor that is not as good as the Toshiba used in the Nikon 7100 - at least I was not impressed at all with it (the older Sony APS 24MP sensor) even at base ISO. Based on that, I would prefer that the Toshiba was used in the K3 OR an updated Sony 24MP sensor (which is one of the rumors). All that said, Pentax generally has the best image pipeline so who knows what they can get out of whatever they use.

NEX-7 doesnt have weakest AA, then it has really thick UV/IR and SMI of 85/80 which indicates usual Sony high quality CFA. All these things prevent some of the light to get to the sensor.

D7100 doesnt have AA, UV/IR no clue, but since it doesnt make any issues, its simply there and doing its job, SMI is 79/76 which means usual Nikon survivable quality CFA.

As far as noise goes..

NEX-7
ISO 100 (78) - 35.9dB

D7100
ISO 100 (69) - 36.3dB

and dynamic range

NEX-7
ISO 100 - 12.59eV

D7100
ISO 100 - 12.92eV

Yea, huge difference. Close to not visible. If you add on top of that NEX-7 being mirrorless and not exactly thick one (less space, more electronical noise, less place for high quality compomenents, more heat etc.).

My summary is, that if everything was same, just it was Sony sensor in D7100, then D7100 would have actually better output than it has.

Given Pentax really knowing how to use Sony sensors and it wont have AA, CFA will be probably somewhere between NEX-7 and D7100 (I hope it will), then I really doubt it will be bellow D7100.

If you saw some big difference between NEX-7 and D7100 its result of processing (or not processing) and shooting. Cause there really isnt much difference..

I have never owned the 7100 but the story of the Sony 24MP APS sensor as used in the NEX-7 does not start and end with the numbers. I experienced some of the worst posterization in tonal transitions (particularly in the blue channel) that I have ever seen. It is very possible though that this was down to other elements of electronics/ imaging chain within the NEX-7. Like I said earlier, it's very likely Pentax would do a better job there.

Well, I tried it now and it doesnt show any more posterization than any other 12-bit camera. Actually less than most (probably due being internally 14-bit).

From technical point of view, D7100 should show less posterization, but thats question whether it can use 14-bits fully or not. Ive seen some RAW pics from D7100 and it wasnt pretty at all..

Another thing is that both of them are quite far from being clean even on base ISO, which obviusly fu*ks up any pic with sky in it. Especially since both have rather high boosting of blue channel (2.6 Sony, 2.5 D7100).

In reality, unless K-3 will have some amazing 2nd generation 24 mpix from Toshiba or Sony, it will be at best only bit better than D7100 or NEX-7. And since thats unlikely to happen, I they will be all about same. But yes, Pentax will most likely top them.. (at least on DxOmark ).

IMHO camera that needs such heavy color NR as D7100 or NEX-7 even on base ISO is something Im avoiding at all cost.

I think it's likely the sensor is new....for me as a Pentax user the K-3 is a big step forward. I know MOST people don't care or see that but I have been shooting a Pentax camera since the *isDL (or whatever it was!). There is something to be said about Pentax lenses, not just the Limited's. My 50/1.7 is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever owned and it's scary sharp even at f/2.8. I don't need a machine gun camera but I do need one with more accurate and precise AF tracking. We will see what happens in November.

I'm intrigued by K-3 & also 70D.

I own Pentax, Canon & Nikon gear & thought I'd never buy ANY aps-c dslr again.
70D is $1199, K-3 is $1299, both are buyable but I'm waiting for the week before Turkey Day price drops to help me decide on one or the other.

If I could dump Pentax for good & I then recoup $6,000 in glass. Or I buy Canon 70D just to get my Pentax cash back by dumping all my Pentax Japan glass & system built last 11 years so I can spend it all again another day. K-3 with the no aa filter & w/ Pentax added sensor voodooo makes me wonder if its been worth the wait for full frame Pentax announced 13 years ago by instead buying a K-3.

I don't need another camera, would like a camera with articulated screen which 70D has & Pentax does without yet again...

Articulated screen? IMHO one more thing to break on a camera.

They didnt seem to break on E-3 or E-5. Neither will on E-M1 I think.. yet same build quality level in first two cases.

Nor on the A77, GH3 or A99.

Articulated screens are the bomb. I wish more cameras had them.

'Articulated screens are the bomb.' +1

There are not many components that you can honestly say get you shots you would not have been able to capture otherwise, but this is one such. Strong too on Sonys, with reasonable care. Nice to be able to turn them inside, facing the body also.

For some reason, articulated screens seem to be associated with only consumer cameras. Sports shooters may not have a need for them, but landscape shooters love them. I too wish more cameras had them.

Except:
Olympus E-3
Olympus E-5
Olympus E-M1
Panasonic GH3
Sony A99

As for sports shooters, I use the one on the GH2 and 7-14mm often when taking wide angle shots inside racing cars, and low-angle shots of any kind of sports. The most important reason why many sports and news photographers don't use articulated LCDs is probably that they use high end Nikon and Canon cameras and they do all have fixed screens.

Sony's Full Frame Nex-VG900 has articulated screen as do most video cameras:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/892256-REG/Sony_NEX_VG900_Full_Frame_Interchangeable_Lens.html

One day Pentax will stand alone without full frame sensor option & without an articulated screen feature.
But they have offered a plethora of colored cameras so they are winning the decorating prize.

Just a thought, but some cameras allow using HDMI cable with display for LiveView too. Thats sometimes even better than tilt-swivel screen (given you take that display with you). Sony actually made dedicated screen for that.. (can be mounted into hot-shoe for example).

Of course, LV performs much quicker with these mirrorless or fixed mirror cameras compared to DSLR's with reflex mirrors, which is likely a major reason articulated screens are not used. Most DSLR's would be used with LV while on a tripod and at that point, one can use remote viewing options via WiFi.

Pentaxforums have posted their K-3 review:

http://www.pentaxforums.com/reviews/pentax-k-3-review/introduction.html

I have to say, I'm really impressed by this camera thus far.

One minor bit of incorrect info in the review concerns the build quality. The review states the build quality is of the same high standard of the previous K-5's. In fact, the build quality has been improved as can be seen below when looking at the rear of both cameras. There is now a solid magnesium back on the K3 not just a skeleton structure.
