| p.1 #3 · p.1 #3 · Looking for a gray/black portable/collapsible backdrop? |
I am looking for some suggestions for portable backdrops for single portraits(usually half-lengths)... Has anyone used this backdrop or can recommend something else. ...I don't have a lot of room in my trunk to carry a seamless or large background and do not have an assistant to carry my lights so I'm trying to keep it light.
I use the Westcott X-Drop. It's a little different than what you linked to though. It has a metal frame you set up and then there's a stretchy 5' X 7' fabric you attach to the frame. The stretching takes care of most wrinkles, although a few can still remain. You can get extra fabric in different colors that don't take up much more space, and the whole thing takes down and fits into a small carrying case.
Other than the green, white, and black fabrics they also have a number of patterned fabrics, but no plain gray. It wouldn't be too hard to make one, though; you should be able to get suitable fabric and grommets at a fabric store.

Here's a shot showing the X-Drop, with the chromakey green fabric, in my studio. You'd actually shoot from the other side, of course; this was just to show the frame.
