Hey everyone, finally decided to join FM (or finally decided to pay for it, rather), since I have some buying and selling of gear to do. Thought I'd introduce myself to those that don't know me with a recent image.
This is an incoming lightning storm illuminating virga over Oregon's Steens Mountain and the Alvord desert playa at dusk. These are the only fireworks I saw this year, on the eve of our independence day. My ex and I were all set up to camp out here, grilling hot dogs, when the lightning and wind came over Steens mountain with little warning. We packed up the Subaru in a hurry, as I kept setting off 30-second exposures, just missing each burst of lightning between them.
The second I got this exposure, we raced off the playa and up the long dirt road at 60mph, as the storm rolled in behind us. We didn't want to be the tallest objects for miles, in the middle of a lightning storm (nor did I want to pay for a tow out of mud).
