Canon has mostly focused their efforts on the Video segment of the business the last few years. They have introduced new cinema camera bodies and also quite a few lenses made for video in both EF and PL mounts. Even on their dslr's they have obviously focused on video features like with the stm lenses and live view focus during video. Yes, I, like most hard core still photographers, feel a bit neglected in that Canon has not made huge strides in the sesnor department for still image capture.
Can't blame them really. Video is where the public's interest is at. I just got back from a horse show and practically everyone there was taking video from cell phones, to P+S's, to iPad's, to DSLR's including a 1D4 I recognized. The official photographer and me were the only ones doing stills.
Many of us may not like the Canon focus on video but they are a business after all and they can see the trends as to what is popular and what will sell.
I still think that they will release better sensors but it clearly is not high on the priority list.
